SubHover is a browser extension that translates words in video subtitles when you hover over them. It has no account, no ads and no analytics.
What stays on your device
- Your settings (languages, display options).
- Your personal dictionary: saved words with the sentence they came from.
- Your DeepL API key, if you add one.
- Text recognition of subtitles burned into the picture runs locally inside the extension. Video frames never leave your device.
What is sent, and where
- Translation. When you hover a word or select a phrase, that word or phrase (and the subtitle line it belongs to, for context) is sent to the translator you chose: Google Translate (default) or DeepL (with your own key). Their privacy policies apply: Google, DeepL.
- Song lyrics. On music videos, the song title and artist are sent to LRCLIB, a free open lyrics database, to fetch the lyrics.
- Subtitle files. The extension downloads the subtitle file of the video you are watching from the same site that serves it, without cookies.
Nothing else is collected. The extension does not read your browsing history, does not track you and does not send data to the developer.
Selling and sharing
User data is never sold, never used for advertising and never transferred for any purpose other than translating subtitles.
Deleting your data
Remove the extension, and your settings and dictionary are deleted with it. You can also delete words from the dictionary at any time.

Что остаётся на твоём устройстве
- Настройки (языки, вид субтитров).
- Личный словарик: сохранённые слова с фразой, из которой они взяты.
- Ключ DeepL, если ты его добавил.
- Распознавание субтитров, вшитых в картинку, идёт внутри расширения. Кадры видео никуда не уходят.
Что отправляется и куда
- Перевод. Слово или фраза, на которые ты навёл (и строка субтитров для контекста), уходят выбранному переводчику: Google Переводчик (по умолчанию) или DeepL (с твоим ключом).
- Тексты песен. В клипах название песни и исполнитель уходят в открытую базу текстов LRCLIB.
- Файлы субтитров. Расширение скачивает файл субтитров видео с того же сайта, где идёт видео, без cookie.
Больше ничего не собирается. Расширение не читает историю браузера, не следит за тобой и ничего не отправляет разработчику.
Продажа и передача
Данные не продаются, не используются для рекламы и не передаются ни для чего, кроме перевода субтитров.
Как удалить данные
Удали расширение — настройки и словарик удалятся вместе с ним. Слова из словарика можно удалять в любой момент.
